A cut above the rest

An early postcard of St Mary’s Church, Calne

St Mary’s Church, Calne, Grade One listed, is looking particularly handsome at the moment – possibly in preparation for the re-dedication of the recently- restored Calne War Memorial in the churchyard, on 26 May.

Thanks to Matt Dry of Dryad Land and Tree Care, who has the contract to take care of the avenues of old yew trees, which lead up to the front and side entrances, everything looks beautifully neat and trim, creating wonderful shapes silhouetted against the church and sky.

View of church and war memorial from the Tounson Almshouses, Kingsbury Street, on the left, c 1970.
